Aynur Bektas's factory shows there is another way for Turkey's textiles industry. For this social entrepreneur, humane working conditions come first. At 58,she has transformed what was a small family business into a major force in central Anatolya - a region with little in the way of industry. Bektas's factory supplies global brands like Esprit, and employs mainly women. Bektas argues that women still have to work harder than men in Turkey, yet often have no opportunities to reap the rewards. Wherever possible Bektas fights for equal rights for women. In 2008 she was named Turkish Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Schwab Foundation.
